State Treasurer Plans To Run For Governor

Democratic state Treasurer Richard Moore is planning to announce this week he will run for governor.

Moore's campaign says it has planned the announcement for 5 p.m. Tuesday at J.F. Webb High School in Oxford.

The 46-year-old Moore is expected to be challenged for the Democratic nomination by Lieutenant Governor Beverly Perdue, who hasn't formally entered the race.

Three Republicans already have announced they will seek the GOP nomination.

Moore is a native of Granville County and has been state treasurer since 2000.

He also has been a federal prosecutor, a state legislator and was state secretary of crime control and public safety.
