A newspaper says a company hired to audit the security systems of the North Carolina lottery wasn't checked by state officials.
The Charlotte Observer says if the firm had been checked officials would have found it isn't registered to do business in the state.
Tidwell Dewitt LLC of Alabama was picked to check computer systems that allow printing of lottery tickets at stores and other locations.
Tidwell official Drew Sipos said the company didn't have to register because a computer services company is handling the audit for them.
But a state official says registration is required and that the firm tried to register in January but its paperwork wasn't correct.
