After a mild Thanksgiving, a cold reality check has moved into eastern Carolina. Strong westerly winds will keep the wind chills in the mid 40s through the day Friday, despite the sunny skies.
A Wind Advisory is in effect for Outer Banks Dare and Hyde counties through midnight Friday night. Westerly winds will gust from 30 to 40+ mph from late morning into Friday night. Driving along the Outer Banks will be difficult at times, especially in high profile vehicles.
A Coastal Flood Warning has also been issued for Outer Banks Dare and Hyde counties until 10am Saturday morning. Strong westerly winds blowing across the sounds will bring the potential for soundside flooding through Saturday morning. Water rises of 3 to 4 feet above normal will be possible, especially mid afternoon and pre sunrise around the high tides.
A Freeze Watch has been issued for Beaufort, Inland Hyde, Pamlico, Craven, Jones, and Onslow counties for Friday night. Near freezing overnight lows are likely within the watch area. Plants and tender vegetation should be protected through the overnight.
Sunny skies and relaxing winds will be on tap over the weekend, with upper 50s Saturday, warming to the upper 60s Sunday.
