Renovated Aquarium Shatters Attendance Records

In its first year since re-opening after a major expansion, the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores broke attendance records with turnout. There have been 620,000 visitors in the past year. Before the renovation only about 250,000 people would come each year. The more than double attendance record is attributed to 93,000 square feet of new shipwrecks, sharks, otters, eels -- among other things. The 12-month total set a new high for the three North Carolina Aquariums operated by the North Carolina Deptartment of Environment and Natural Resources.
