A deal to move the Charlotte Knights baseball team into a new stadium in the city's downtown is slated for a vote tonight.
The Triple-A team currently plays in Fort Mill, South Carolina. But Mecklenburg County is working on a deal with the city of Charlotte and the county's schools that includes new parks, affordable housing and the stadium.
The county's schools approved the deal last week. Up next is tonight's vote before Charlotte City Council.
Even if the deal passes tonight, there is more back-room work to be done before construction can start, including a land-swap deal between the county and some private developers.
Mecklenburg County general manager for development and planning Bobbie Shields says the goal is to have a solid plan in place by July.
