A former East Carolina University official who admitted her part in a plan to skim more than 200-thousand dollars in financial aid money has been sentenced to at least one year in prison.
Debra Cherry Albritton was sentenced yesterday during an hour-long hearing in Pitt County Superior Court.
The 52-year-old woman pleaded guilty about three months ago to 12 counts of obtaining property by false pretenses.
Investigators say she cooperated with two men in a plot to solicit financial aid applications from students and split the proceeds with them. The aid funds came from student fees.
A hearing is scheduled June 11th for her co-defendants.
