Community service mixed with fun equaled giving toward a great cause Thursday in Onslow County. Thursday was the 4th annual Day of Caring in Jacksonville. It's an event put on every year by the United Way nationwide to kick off the campaign season. The day began with a proclamation by mayor Jan Bean Slagle, then it was off to work as over 60 volunteers made up of 12 teams put in a lot of elbow grease. They painted, did some landscaping, delivered ice water -- even made meals -- all service free of charge for non profits in the county.
