Coast Guard Contractor Arrested On Weapons Charges

Authorities say they are investigating alleged threats against a U-S Coast Guard base made by a contractor arrested on weapons charges.

Officials have arrested 36-year-old Dennis Caccioppo of Elizabeth City and charged him with possession of a firearm while being a felon. He was released after posting bond.

Pasquotank Sheriff Randy Cartwright says officials recovered 13 firearms, including three assault-type rifles and a lot of ammunition while searching Caccioppo's house last week.

The sheriff also says they're investigating allegations that Caccioppo threatened to use the weapons at his workplace -- Lear Siegler Service at the Coast Guard's Aircraft Repair and Supply Center.

Caccioppo has been convicted of grand larceny and breaking and entering with intent to commit larceny.
