A Red Springs woman is charged with first-degree murder after authorities say she doused her boyfriend with a flammable liquid while he was sleeping and set him on fire.
Shelia Caroline Oxendine is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Austin Wilson. The 36-year-old Oxendine was facing an attempted murder charge before Wilson died.
Oxendine is also charged with first-degree arson.
Red Springs police responded to a house fire early this morning and found the 69-year-old Wilson in the road in front of the residence with severe burns on his body. Police Chief Troy McDuffie says Wilson was still on fire when he ran from the house.
Wilson died at U-N-C Burn Center in Chapel Hill this afternoon after suffering third-degree burns over 80 percent of his body.
Authorities say Wilson and Oxendine were sharing the home.
