New Slogan Sought For N.C. License Plate

"First in Flight" and the Wright Flyer
are on the verge of disappearing from the North Carolina license
The House Tuesday approved a bill that would create a contest open
to all comers for new standard plates for vehicles registered in
North Carolina. The state's top elected leaders would choose a
winner from among three finalists.
Representative Margaret Dickson of Cumberland County is chief
sponsor. She notes that the current Outer Banks-inspired scene
dates from the early 1980s, and she says it's time for a design
that captures the spirit of the state's future.
Dickson also pointed out that with millions of vehicles driving
around with North Carolina tags, an eye-catching plate would be
great free advertising.
The measure now goes to the Senate for its approval.
