New information in the investigation into the massive condo fire along Pine Knoll Shores in Carteret County Sunday. The Pine Knoll Shores fire chief says they know that the fire started on the outside, in between the B and C buildings of the Shutters condominiums. Those are the buildings farthest to the left. And the S.B.I. has narrowed the cause down to an electrical or mechanical failure. Fire officials say the propane tanks on the outside of the building didn't cause the fire, but say, combined with winds coming off the ocean, contributed to the fire spreading so rapidly.
