Former North Carolina Senator John Edwards says he's the only Democratic presidential candidate with any chance of winning the South.
Based on early fundraising reports, he might be right.
Edwards is a distant third behind New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and Illinois Senator Barack Obama in first quarter fundraising.
Edwards has 14 million dollars, compared with Clinton's 26 million dollars and Obama's 25 (m) million dollars.
But in eight Southern states, Edwards raised nearly three million dollars, compared with 700-thousand dollars for Obama and 40-thousand dollars for Clinton.
States in that analysis include Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina.
