A family continues to try to cope with the loss of their child. The body of 7-year-old Chasity Sumner was found in Pink Hill, Lenoir County Saturday, just hours after she was reported missing. The sheriff's department located the body in a ditch in front of the home. John Manning, 37 years old, was arrested shortly after the discovery. Family and friends gathered at the home of Chasity Monday still trying to make sense of what happened. According to Sumner's family, Manning was staying at the home on a temporary basis while he got back on his feet. He was released from jail two weeks ago on evasion of child support charges. In addition to murder, manning now faces charges of first degree rape, first degree sex offense and first degree kidnapping.
