With tourist season just around the corner you can be sure thousands of visitors will flock to the coast, many looking forward to a charter boat trip. The question is, with the high price of fuel, will they be able to afford it? And can the boat captains afford to run? Captain Tony Ross has been chartering for over 8 years in Atlantic Beach. He can remember when gas was under $1.00 then. Now it costs him up to $500.00 a day to fill his 900 gallon tank. His fear now is that the tourists may soon diminish, much like his profits. Ross says an average charter boat trip for about six people runs about $1,300 dollars for a full day. He says he's thinking about adding a fuel surcharge, to make up for the cost of gas.
