A day at the Oregon Inlet searching for shells yielded a much more gruesome discovery: a body washed ashore.
This happened near the south jetty of the Oregon Inlet at Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge in Dare County. Federal officials say a visitor collecting seashells found the body of a white man washed ashore Saturday.
Crews took the body to a funeral home in Manteo, and law enforcement are trying to figure out who this man was.
