State Attorney General Roy Cooper attended the annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner over the weekend as the guest of "C-B-S Evening News" anchor Katie Couric.
Cooper and his wife, Kristin, sat with Couric at the annual event Saturday night in Washington. Journalists host the event and invite newsmakers and politicians as their guests.
Cooper spokeswoman Noelle Talley says Couric's producer called with the invitation Thursday. That came about a week after Cooper held a news conference to announce he was dropping charges against three Duke University lacrosse players accused of sexually assaulting a stripper at a team party.
Couric met Cooper while she was in Raleigh for his announcement.
