This after a fuel tank from an F15 fighter jet out of Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, plummeted to the ground just off Egrets Bay Court off 20th Street in Morehead City. Seymour Johnson officials say the plane was on a training exercise over the Newport River when a fuel pod accidentally came off. Officials do not know at this time how much fuel it was carrying, but say it had the capacity to carry over six hundred gallons of fuel. Emergency officials from Carteret County on the scene today, say the area of impact, looks much like a crater the size of a small SUV, a crater that if were a few yards in any direction could of devastated homes and threaten lives. Neighbors say they could even smell the jet fuel. An investigation is ongoing, as to how this happened, and how much fuel the jet was carrying.
