Earth Day celebrations in our area kicked off Sunday with a focus on preserving the natural landscape of Eastern Carolina.

The Friends Of Greenville Greenways OR F.R.O.G.G.S..held their inaugural treasure hunt to coincide with earth day this year.

Activities for the kids, poster displays by D.H. Conley High School students and displays of the types of trees along the greenway-- is one way the organization hopes to raise awareness of the natural beauty in the area.

This fall the City plans to construct a new three point two mile trail which would connect the Town Common with the Green Springs Park-- creating a more than seven mile long nature trail for all to enjoy.
