Student Kills Himself After Threatening Students

A 16-year-old student shot and killed himself shortly after threatening two students with a handgun.

It happened yesterday in Huntersville. The town is located about 10 minutes from Charlotte. Four area schools were put under lockdown, including North Mecklenburg High School where the student attended.

Police say Josh Emerson Cook shot himself in the head when officers confronted him at a nearby gas station. He later died. Captain Michael Kee of the Huntersville Police Department says police erred on the side of caution in locking down the schools in light of the shootings that occurred at Virginia Tech.
