Buying prescription drugs in a 3 month supply instead of one month at a time could cut your medication costs by 18 to 30 percent.
That's according to a University of Chicago analysis of more than 26,000 prescriptions filled. Experts there say prescription drugs are one of the fastest rising health care costs.
Switching to generics can also save consumers money.
The University of Chicago analysis also says, "the drugs in this study were limited to those that were prescribed for common chronic conditions, including high cholesterol, hypertension, hypothyroidism and depression. Only patients who received both a one-month supply and a three-month supply during the same year in the same dose and quantity were included in the main analysis."

The sad thing is a lot of people can't afford their meds on an "as needed" basis, let alone pay ahead. The more critical the medication is for the health of the individual, the more expensive it seems to be.
That's right JR. Insurance only pays for a 30-day supply of medicine. I travel to the drug store about twice a week.
i already knew this, but my insurance company does not. they will pay their part only if i get a thirty day supply. i live about 15 miles from my pharmacy. a 90 day supply would save my wife and me about 5 different trips to the drug store.
