An environmental group says North Carolina's future with solar energy can be bright.
The Environment North Carolina Research and Policy Center said Wednesday the state could generate solar power equal to 14 percent of its electricity needs by 2030.
The group's report says North Carolina's 250 days of sunlight a year makes it a good place to capture energy from above without generating more pollution.
The study's findings are based on examining the potential for installing solar panels in each of the 100 counties.
Environment North Carolina says solar power installations grew six-fold last year and could increase another six-fold by the end of next year.
The report recommended the General Assembly reinstate a tax credit for renewable energy manufacturers.

Audra, I am not against the technology and think is a modern marvel, however, my point is everything has its plus and minus factors. The protests I saw had to do with the fact the wind, like you said, is always blowing, when it gets to a certain mph, all of the windmills there start a whirling sound that drives them crazy. I didn't notice this from my hotel there but did read and hear about it in town. I know solar has a future but I also know they are expensive and used toxic material in their manufacture. My concern to all of this, do not put all of you eggs in the same basket. Also important note; I do not believe in global warming based on science and facts. The only guy out there supporting this "theory" is a politician who is making millions on this ponzi scheme.

OSOC, I lived W. of San Gorgonio pass for almost 4 yrs there. Despite some protests, there are no houses underneath them so unless u take the eco-tour u only see them from the fwy & dont hear them anyway & the Coachella Valley Fringe-Toed Lizards don't seem to mind. ;-) So it all depends on location. Statistically they supply about 250K ppl pwr & stop 3million lbs sulfur & nitrogen oxides, 600mill lbs CO2 per yr. The wind there is so continuous & great it would be insane to not take advantage of it. The bigger problem was stopping the idiots on ORVs who left trails on the hillsides thru-out, that after yrs are still visible & mending slowly. Then Morongo complained re running lines thru the rez, instead suggesting Snow Creek-their ancestral lands(?!). They're the ones who built the monstrosity eyesore casino on my skyline, visible from my former front door. Like that's not a resource hog and pollution producer. They traffic-jam the place regularly.

Purebread, making solar panels is extemely hazardous. I know from first hand projects. The materials are toxic to humans and stable, .5 mg 8 hour TWA. This will be a problem when you try to dispose of them some day. No one will tell you that "part of the story", however, the liberals will be tip toeing in the tullips on the story. Also, the windmill technology, I am an engineer, was real cool until I learned about it. I then saw the wind mills at Palm Springs Ca, then the protests, newpaper complaints about noise....this is why I not against this, I just don't know how we can use it yet. Bev wants to put a huge windmill in the sound of NC. OK, what about fish and wildlife? Well, other sites say its not good, too much noise.....I can let the boys bash me all day long but none of them have any answers, just party rhetoric. I guess Obama is a part time scientist too.
