The Beaufort County woman who turned over 130 dogs because she was unable to continue to care for them, hopes they all find a good home.
The woman, who didn't want her identity disclosed, said she has always loved animals and has always taken in as many strays as possible. She says because of the tough economic times the situation got out of control and she had to give them up.
Animal control wants to have most of the animals up for adoption by next week. However, some that are overly aggressive most likely will have to be put down.
PREVIOUS STORY:
More than a hundred dogs were turned over to animal control officers in one Eastern Carolina county.
Beaufort County authorities say 127 dogs -- most of them pit bulls -- were voluntarily turned in Tuesday. The animal shelter is now maxed out.
County manager Paul Spruill tells WITN News that due to the economic situation, the owner had to turn the animals over. Spruill says the woman, who lives in the Edwards area, started out as a pet owner and then decided to breed and sell the dogs.
"The property owner had insufficient shelter for the number of animals in her care. Generally, the animals were well fed and in fair health," said Spruill.
Right now there have been no charges filed.
Animal control says due to the aggressive nature of some of the dogs, only about half of them will be able to be put up for adoption. People can view the available dogs starting Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the animal control facility on Highway 264 East.

anyone remember the end of the movie 'Old Yeller'? sounds like that should happen 130 times over.
They are taking them out because they are dangerous for the individuals that have to do this god awful job because people will not spay and neuter. Do your research before you even respond to things. How many people have side effects from the chambers leaking? How many have blown up? You don't even no do you?
?????? a typical uneducated person GO WATCH and see how painful it is. I have been in my field of work for OVER 10 years WITH multiple degrees in euthanasia by chamber and injection. The classes are low cost and honestly you have truely been lied to and I promise NO educated person told you it was bloody. AND further more the 1st function of the body that shuts down is the vocal chords SO with that being said this is why you hear them howling or moaning. You people are crazy! Once again try and help fix the problem instead of B******* about everthing.
