Residents in one county were in civil court Monday suing the city of Kinston because they're being forced into the All-America city through annexation.
Residents living on Crestview Street and on neighboring streets, all currently live outside Kinston city limits. They're angry after city leaders forced them to annex and pay city taxes.
City leaders say they voted to annex because it is fiscally responsible. But many who live in the area say they can't afford anymore taxes.
Although annexation was already voted on by the city, the pending civil lawsuit prohibits them from moving forward.
The hearing could continue Tuesday.

The only reason this issue has even come up is because Kinston has so much 'dead weight' draining the city of funds. Make East Kinston start working for a change instead of robbings, shootings, and killings. (To Smith and Boyd hire more officers instead of firing and running off good cops)
I hope the Kinston residents win this. It's not right to force neighborhoods to be annexed into the city if it's not wanted. Those in the city council have already left a bad taste in this. Their pictures are on a billboard on Hwy 258 going into Kinston.
Fiscally responsible is another term for "want more tax revenue". It's tantamount to legal rape. The law should require a mojority of residents in an area to approve by vote before an area can be annexed.
