A 19 year-old is in fair condition after driving into a 10 foot hole that developed after flood waters washed out a portion of a roadway.
It happened on Jones Road in the Martin County town of Jamesville Friday afternoon.
Highway Patrol troopers say Simon Arrants drove past a barricade and drove more than 60 miles per hour into the hole. Troopers say Arrants was thrown through the windshield of the vehicle and suffered severe head injuries.
Neighbors say the pipe underneath the road has failed twice, causing the road to collapse. D.O.T engineers say the water line problem is one that has to be resolved before they can repair and reopen the road.
Court records show Arrants has been charged with driving by person less than 21 years old after consuming alcohol or drugs, reckless driving to endanger, driving on a closed/unopened highway, and driving left of center.

To ANONYMOUS, Charlie Ray : Please do not make all people from Jamesville look stupid. Try to spell your words right. "NCCOURTS.ORG Why do you all even go to that sight" The correct spelling is site.
NCCOURTS.ORG Why do you all even go to that sight? Are your life's really that dull, you have to go see what others have done?
I think it's pitiful how people on this website volunteer opinions that are so hurtful. I am a friend of Simon's and even though he made a simple mistake gives none of you a legitimate reason to trash him. I must have been badly mistaken when I was taught that no one on Earth is perfect. For those of you who constantly criticize this family my prayers are with you. On a positive note, Simon is doing better. No thanks to your prayers or concern. To the positive posts on this website, thanks for all your support. This family needs it right now.
