The North Carolina Highway Patrol has a message for everyone who is in a hurry this coming holiday season. Slow down.
Operation Slow Down will begin on Monday and will run until November 29th. Troopers are looking to step up enforcement of speed-related violations as well as educate the public on the dangers of excessive speed.
Speed related crashes are the number one cause of collisions and fatalities across our state and in Pitt County. Eighteen fatalities in Pitt and Martin counties were cause by speeding.
Drivers can expect to see more patrol cars on major thoroughfares throughout their counties and statewide.

Anonymous, I said I tailgated other drivers where in these comments? So I'm not sure what point you were trying to make with that threat. If someone in front of me is driving significantly under the speed limit, I tend to slow down with 'em until it's safe to pass. Not a day goes by that I don't see a deer or possum or dog in the road or by the road getting ready to run out, so I won't be caught close behind someone else if they have to stop in a hurry for whatever reason.

These are misleading statistics in the article. The majority of fatalities involving motor vehicles speeding ALSO involve alcohol. It is the combination of excessive speed with delayed reactions that causes the problems.
