Martin County Drug Bust Nets More Than A Dozen Suspects

On Thursday, deputies with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, officers with the Williamston Police Department, officers with the Robersonville Police Department and Agents with North Carolina A.L.E. conducted a joint operation in Martin County titled “Street Sweeper 2.”

As you recall from WITN's coverage in October, a previous "Street Sweeper" in Martin County netted dozens of drug suspects.

In the "Street Sweeper 2" operation, there were numerous subjects arrested and charged with various narcotics related crimes. These arrests were the result of a 6-month investigation conducted by the Martin County Narcotics Unit.

Travis Tremaine Washington of Wynne Road, Williamston
Larry Joseph Brown of East Second Street, Robersonville
Maggie Andrews Knight of South Roberson Street, Robersonville
Kimothy Edward Harrell of Chapman Road, Robersonville
Norman Ben Askew of Cypress Drive, Everetts
Eric Patrick Red of South Harrell Street, Williamston
Brian Fredrick Bennerson of North Grimes Street, Robersonville
Glenda Jean Hall of Davenport Country Lane, Tarboro
Arthur Lee Scriven of Henderson Street, Williamston
Alethia Rochelle Speller of Harris Street, Williamston
Tafari Nieon Griffin, already in Department of Corrections facility

In addition to the above listed subjects that were arrested in the operation, there are additional subjects who are wanted by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office for narcotics related charges. These subjects were unable to be located during the operation and currently have outstanding warrants for their arrest.

This is the third operation of it’s kind conducted by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office and Williamston Police Department since October of 2008. A total number of 70 subjects have been arrested since October 2008 as a result of these special “drug round-up” operations.

Sheriff Dan Gibbs and Williamston Chief of Police Steve Smith continue to focus on combating the sale and distribution of illegal narcotics in and around Martin County. In addition to these “drug round-up” operations, the Martin County Narcotics Unit conducts covert and overt operations in which additional drug suspects are arrested and charged.
