WITN News At Sunrise "Cool School" In Pitt County
WITN News at Sunrise took the show on the road to Pactolus Elementary in Pitt County.

When WITN asked "How Cool is Your School," the students at Pactolus Elementary in Pitt County answered. Our committee selected Pactolus after so many students wrote in about the wonderful teachers, staff and programs, along with their steel drum band and chorus.
About 100 students and staff members came for the broadcast, despite windy and rainy weather, and despite the one-hour delay for the start of the school day.
Pactolus Elementary serves children through eighth grade in eastern Pitt County. Principal Joe Nelson says the family atmosphere really makes the school a cool place to be.
Some of the innovative programs at Pactolus Elementary include Girl Power program, the Dangerous Boys Book Club and the Royal Academy.
During the live broadcast, we were treated to performances by the Pactolus Steel Drum Band, under the direction of Laura O'Neal, along with the Pactolus Middle School Chorus, under the direction of Kathy Smith. Smith also led the first and second graders in song.

I was very impressed to see the 1st and 2nd graders signing as they sang! Hearing the middle school chorus and Steel Drum band Play you would have never guessed they were so young. I would love a CD if they could make one. Pactolus is so talented! How cool was the book club where the boys were reading and comparing themselves to the characters in the books they were reading? Amazing. And, I wish I was in that science class. I hear they do experiments all the time and get to wear lab coats and goggles. And to have a bilingual kindergarten teacher is just awesome. I can't wait until my child can attend school and pick up another language. I must drive by that place everyday on the way to work and I didn't know that so much was happening there! Congrats Pactolus School.
I was there! Nola is my best friend. I think we did awesome! The steel drum band did great too! I did have to get up way early, but it was worth it for the amazing job we did that day! It was a blast.
