Flooding is causing problems in Hyde County, on roadways and in low-lying areas. Some yards are filled with water.

In Fairfield, a woman had to escape her car when it became stuck in flood waters. The woman told WITN News that she didn't realize how deep the water was and the next thing she knew her car was half-submerged in a ditch.

A friend came along in a few minutes and pulled the car out.

A coastal flood warning remains in effect for Hyde County until 8:00 a.m. Saturday.

Officials say residents and visitors need to stay alert to rising water, and remember the high threat of rip currents.

They also remind motorists to stay alert for significant water on roadways and localized flooding in low areas.

Highway 12 is open south of the Oregon Inlet Bridge. However, passage may be reduced to one lane in portions of Highway 12 through the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge to the Rodanthe area.

The next period of high tide is expected at approx 4:45 pm Thursday.

Hyde County Government Offices are closed. The government center will reopen Friday at 10:00 a.m.

Hyde County Emergency Services continues to review the latest weather forecasts, is coordinating with the State and nearby counties, and advising citizens on possible actions to protect themselves and their property.

Paul I do understand. It is amazing the one calling the shots has our homeower & flood insurance with Dare & Carteret Co. rates an Tyrrell Co. rates are $1,000. less the Hyde Co. Tyrrell has just as much flooding as Hyde has.Hyde is doing nothing to get our rates lower. FYI its been a week since the flooding took place and the Paramedic truck was in Swan Quarter & Engelhard 2 or more times Thursday an the truck is really nasty,(don't have time for washing but plenty time for visiting), not counting the cost of joy riding. No excuse for learning your area. That's what they make GPS for.
