Governor Beverly Perdue will be speaking at the Veterans Day Remembrance Ceremony in Jacksonville on Wednesday. The ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at the Disabled American Veterans grounds at 300 Sherwood Road. The event will host other speakers as well including U.S. and state representatives, Commanding Officers from the Camp Lejeune and New River areas, Jacksonville mayor Sammy Phillips, and others.

Craven County Disabled Veteran’s will hold a Veterans Day luncheon and wreath laying ceremony. Among the guests will be Governor Perdue’s husband, First Gentlemen Robert Eaves, Congressman G.K. Butterfield, Craven County Disabled Veterans and others. The luncheon will be held at the New Bern National Guard Armory at 301 Glenburnie Drive at 12 p.m. Afterward a wreath laying ceremony will take place at the New Bern National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance will be recited and the National Anthem sung. There will be remarks by veterans and Robert Eaves will read the names of the fallen from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

The Veterans Council was scheduled to hold an event at Greenville Town Commons at 11 a.m. Organizers say the ceremony has been moved to J.H. Rose High School.

The Ayden Veterans Day Program that was scheduled to be held at Veterans Memorial Park. With inclement weather in the forecast it has been moved to the Doug Mitchell Auditorium in the Ayden Arts and Recreation facility at 4354 Lee Street.
