Federal authorities say a Charlotte tax preparer has agreed to plead guilty to submitting nearly six million dollars in false tax refund claims.
48 year-old Lloyd Anthony Bastfield had been a professional tax preparer for about 18 years and ran Tony's Tax Service.
According to U-S Attorney Gretchen Shappert's office, Bastfield will plead guilty to conspiring to defraud the government and attempting to evade income tax he and his wife owed the Internal Revenue Service.
In the plea, Bastfield admits to filing more than 10-thousand income tax returns for individual clients from 2002 to 2005. Authorities say nearly 99 percent of the income tax returns claimed a refund, but most of the claims were based on false education credits.
