A man believed to be from Bronx, New York is in custody in Iredell County after a traffic stop on Interstate 77 led authorities to 165 pounds of cocaine.
The driver of the vehicle is identified as Tony Arismendy Peguero. He's being held in the Iredell County Jail under a million dollars secured bond.
Captain Jimmy Craven says the 75 blocks of cocaine has a value in excess of 18 million dollars and was ready for distribution.
Investigators think the drugs were headed from Atlanta to Philadelphia.
Iredell deputies were working with federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement along I-77 when a van failed to move over when it passed their vehicles Tuesday afternoon. When officers went to write a ticket, they found a table packed with the drugs.
Detectives also said drugs were transported inside hydraulic compartments built into the roof of a conversion van.
