North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine Marshall is calling former Rocky Mount financial broker Joe Jones one of the worst financial crooks in our state's history. Monday morning in Nash County court, Jones pleaded guilty to 41 counts of securities fraud and five counts of obtaining property by false pretenses for scamming hundreds of clients out of millions of dollars. Judge Benjamin Alford sentenced Jones to a minimum of 20 years behind bars. Jones' attorney said the sentence will begin Thursday. Nearly thirty victims in the case stood up to speak before Jones was given his sentence. Prosecutors estimate Jones scammed over 8-million dollars from his clients, many of them retired. The judge told the victims it's unlikely they will get their money back.
