The election opponent of a former judge who resigned after losing his law license has been named to take the vacant judgeship.
Owen Willis Jr. of Dunn has been named by Governor Easley to the 11th Judicial District seat once held by Republican James Ethridge. The district includes Harnett, Johnston and Lee counties.
Willis is a Democrat who lost an election to Ethridge in 2004.
Ethridge lost his law license in October after the State Bar ruled he had taken the assets of a senile woman in 2001. Ethridge kept his job until January, when he resigned.
