Business recruiters in neighboring counties around Greensboro are competing for the plant to make engines for the new HondaJet aircraft that will be manufactured in Guilford County.
Honda selected Piedmont Triad International Airport as the location for its 60 million dollar main plant. The plant is expected to employ about 300 people and manufacture at least 70 aircraft a year by 2010.
Land records show officials in Alamance County are buying land near the Burlington-Alamance Regional Airport for an aviation project called "Big Wing."
A spokeswoman for the Greensboro Economic Development Alliance says her group still is negotiating with Honda about the engine plant. The Greensboro airport has about 600 acres available.
A spokesman for Honda says the company doesn't discuss projects.
