Four-Laning All of Highway 64 To The Coast

There's hope that the lengthy and sometimes frustrating drive from Raleigh to the Outer Banks will get a lot easier in far less time. The 27-mile stretch of highway between Columbia and Manns Harbor is the last leg of the U.S. 64 widening project started more than a decade ago by former Governor Jim Hunt. With the planning process of the U.S. 64 improvement through Tyrrell and Dare counties launched this month, it's
conceivable that all of route 64 between the state capital and the Outer Banks will be a four-lane road within 10 years.
