East Rutherford, NJ - Top seeded North Carolina fell apart in the East Region Championship game Sunday night, falling to the Georgetown Hoyas 96-84. The Heels led 75-65 midway through the second half but only scored one more basket the rest of regulation.
The Hoyas tied the game at 81 before Wayne Ellington had a chance to win it for the Heels with 2 seconds left, but his 18 footer clanked off the rim forcing an overtime that UNC will not soon forget. Roy Williams could only watch as his Tar Heels bricked shot after shot. At one point the Heels had missed 22 of 23 shots. Georgetown outscored the Tar Heels 15-3 in the overtime period to earn a trip to the Final Four in Atlanta.
Georgetown will face Ohio State in the first game of the Final Four Saturday at 6:07 followed by Florida against UCLA later that night. Both games will be televised on CBS.
