Two Firefighters Die Responding To A Call

They respond to emergencies everyday, but one Eastern Carolina Volunteer Fire Department responded to two tragedies of their own.

The Rhodestown Volunteer Fire Department was responding to a call around noon Saturday afternoon. Highway Patrol Troopers say, 45 year old Billy Harold Williams lost control of the fire truck as it veered for a curb. The fire truck ended up on it's side along highway 111 and 258 in Jacksonville. Williams was ejected from the firetruck, his passenger, 19 year Brandon Whimple, was still in the vehicle when rescue arrived. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

The department is coming together to cope with the deaths of their fellow comrades. The Secretary/Treasurer, Ron Brobst, said a full fireman's funeral is being planned for later next week for both firefighters.
