A Prominent Business Owner Charged with DUI, Hit and Run

A prominent Buncombe County businessman and civic leader is facing charges after the state Highway Patrol says he fled the scene of a four-car wreck. Gordon Myers is charged with impaired driving, reckless driving and hit and run. He's listed in fair condition this morning at
Mission Hospitals.

The State Highway Patrol blames alcohol and Myers's failure to slow down for Tuesday's chain reaction crash involving six people, including a 7- and a 12-year-old girl in a van hit by Myers' S-U-V. The S-U-V ran off a road near his home, hit a fence and a tree and threw Myers from the vehicle.

His attorney says there's no evidence Myers was intoxicated because the results of a blood test haven't come back.

Myers has been chairman of the state chamber of commerce, an
Asheville city councilman and a member of several state boards. He
also was chairman of AdvantageWest, an economic development
recruiting agency formed more than a decade ago.
