About 55 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway stretching from Asheville to Cherokee are reopened to traffic. The opening comes several weeks after an ice storm closed the scenic highway.
A parkway spokeswoman says rocks and other debris from the storm
had to be removed. During the winter months, it is not uncommon for sections of the 469-mile parkway to be closed because of snow or other weather problems.
The highway links Virginia's Shenandoah and North Carolina's Great Smoky Mountains national parks.
