Mahlon Webb Jr. was 12 years old when he went on vacation with his grandparents at Atlantic Beach. During his stay, Webb wrote a letter, put it in a bottle and tossed it into the ocean. Five years ago, Webb got a telephone call from a woman in the Grand Cayman Islands who said she found the letter. This week, Webb and his fiance, Susan Watson, were the recipient of a long-distance note. Webb was riding around the golf course where he works as a superintendent when he noticed a yellow balloon on the first hole. There was a tag attached that said, "Happy 100 Day, Dana Johnson, Wynne Primary School Kindergarten, Wynne, Ark." Watson called the school to tell Johnson that the balloon had reached North Carolina, 872 miles from the campus. Johnson told her that after several years of sending balloons, this was the first time anyone had called to say they found one. The balloons were released on January 31st to mark the 100th day of school.
