A Carteret County man is accused of assaulting a disabled veteran over the weekend.
Deputies have charged James Waite of Smyrna with assaulting the 73-year-old man who has only one leg.
Waite was a visitor of the victim's granddaughter, who also lives at the home. When the victim asked Waite to leave, deputies say he began punching the veteran in the head and face.
Waite has been charged with assault on a handicap person and jailed on a $1,000 bond.
