An official in Russia says at least 61 people have died from a methane gas explosion at a Siberian coal mine.
Around 186 miners were working underground in the mine when the
blast occurred. Officials had said earlier that 88 miners had been brought safely to the surface. Emergency officials say at least five other miners have been injured.
The mine is located more than 18-hundred miles east of Moscow in
a coal-rich area of south-central Siberia. Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered emergency officials to travel to the area.
No other details about the explosion have been released.
