The girl's mother Christina Roscoe says her daughter was found at 7:30PM Friday on Tobacco Road in Greenville.

She was at someones house according to Roscoe.

The 11 year old was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

The mother of a missing 11-year-old girl in Greenville has one mission.

"I want her to come back home," said Christina Roscoe. "Getting my daughter back... that's the only thing that matters to me."

Roscoe says it doesn't matter why her daughter, Nijulum Brown, is missing, whether she ran away or something else happened.

"She has a loving family and friends who miss her," Roscoe said. "Whatever she's going through, we can help her."

Roscoe said Nijulum told a family member she was leaving her Courtney Square apartment on Merry Lane and going to a friend's apartment Tuesday afternoon.

The friend lives in the Arlington Square apartment complex, right beside the Courtney Square apartment complex. Both are off Arlington Boulevard.

Roscoe said Nijulum never showed up at her friend's home.

Roscoe says it was common for Nijulum to go to her friend's home after school or in the evening to visit.

Roscoe said her daughter, who attends CM Eppes Middle School, was wearing blue jeans, a turquoise blue shirt and a black ski vest when she left home.

Nijulum's nickname is "Pooh," as in "Winnie the Pooh."

The family is originally from Williamston but has been living in Greenville for about three years.

Nijulum is 5'4" and weighs 120 pounds.

Police reported Nijulum has run away before, but the girl's family says she has not.

Regardless of why she has disappeared, there is concern about the area in which she went missing. There are 72 sex offenders within a three-mile radius of the family's home on Merry Lane, according to the North Carolina Sex Offender Registry. There are three offenders within a one-mile radius.

Greenville police are continuing to look for a missing 11-year-old girl.

Some have questioned why an Amber Alert was not issued. Below is the information on how that works from the NC Department of Crime Control and Public Safety. Following that is the original press release information on this case from the Greenville police department.

AMBER Alert Activation Criteria

ALL of the following statutory criteria (GS §143B-499.7) must be met before the NC Center for Missing Persons will activate an AMBER Alert. The child is: 17 years old or younger, believed to have been abducted, not taken by a parent (unless the child is in danger), not believed to be a runaway or voluntarily missing, and the abduction has been reported to and investigated by a law enforcement agency.

The North Carolina Center for Missing Persons is the only agency that can activate an AMBER Alert and will do so ONLY at the request of an investigating law enforcement agency. It is then the responsibility of the Center to determine whether there is sufficient identifying data to justify AMBER Alert activation. For instance, there must be sufficient descriptive data on the child, abductor and/or abductor's vehicle for the public to be on the lookout for something. It does no good to activate an AMBER Alert if sufficient information can't be provided to the public.

If the abduction of the child is known or suspected to be by a parent of the child, the Center may disseminate information through the AMBER Alert System if the child is believed to be in danger of injury or death.

Synopsis: On October 20, 2009 Officers were notified of a missing 11 year old. The child was reported missing by her mother who last saw her around 1700 hours. The victim, Nijulum Kileonlum Brown, is 11 years of age, 5’04” in height and 120 in weight. The victim has run away from home on a prior occasion.
