Officials opened one of two southbound lanes of Interstate 95 in Robeson County today as crews cleaned up from a tanker spill yesterday. The tractor-trailer overturned and shut down all lanes of
traffic as fuel leaked from the truck. The state Department of Transportation expects the other southbound lane between mile markers 41 and 33 will remain closed most of today as crews clean up the fuel spill. The D-O-T says heavy delays are expected in the area. The northbound lanes reopened yesterday afternoon. No other vehicles were involved in the accident south of Fayetteville near Saint Pauls. he driver of the truck, 41-year-old Clifford Sandoval of
Wilson, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening
injuries. Officials say the tractor-trailer ran off the road into a swamp,
and troopers believe about nine thousand gallons of gasoline and
diesel fuel spilled. The rig is owned by Winston-Salem-based Reliable Tank Lines.
