A Mecklenburg County school administrator could become the state's youngest legislator. Twenty-eight-year-old Tricia Cotham has won a special Democratic Party election to replace former House Speaker Jim Black. Cotham received 23 of 32 votes in the election by party officials in House District 100. Governor Easley is expected to formally appoint the East Mecklenburg High School assistant principal to the seat later this month. Black resigned from the Legislature last month before accepting plea deals on corruption charges.
