Elizabeth City Police Force is joining the family of an officer in mourning his death Tuesday.
Elizabeth City Police Officer Lonnie Lee Moore Junior was off-duty when he crashed early Sunday morning on Highway 13, south of Windsor in Bertie County. Troopers think Moore may have swerved to avoid a deer, and ended up hitting a utility pole. Investigators don't think Moore was wearing a seat belt.
Another person in the car, 47 year-old Stephanie Gallerson of Tampa, Florida was airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital. She's listed in good condition this morning.
No funeral arrangements for officer Moore have been announced yet. A press conference has been scheduled for Tuesday at 2 PM at the Elizabeth City Police Department.

Its soo annoying to read comments about what Officer Lonnie should have or shouldn't have done. At this point it does not matter. I am the daughter of one of his EXTREMELY close friends and I am sadden by his death. My mother is hurting EVERYDAY since he has died. I now have to deal with my own sadness as well as hers. THis is the last thing I need to read. What about how he treated everyone with kindness. How when you are sad he is there to cheer you up. How my mother was protected b/c he would ride out patrol her neighbor. how I am in baltimore and when he was alive I did not have to worry about her. Yes we have our opinions, but I just wish people would stop dwelling on the neg. and appreciate the pos. OFFICER LONNIE L. MOORE JR. YOU WILL BE MISSED RIP.
