Businesses Oppose Changing Start Of School Date

The start of school is once again back up for debate. The North Carolina General Assembly will once again debate the start date of school as they did in 2004. That year they set it to late August to help the tourism industry and allow more quality family time. Now, they are proposing to bump it up to August 5th. Area businesses tell us they believe it will hurt the coastal economy, and will oppose any change. Friday, citizens of Carteret County and area businesses will present their ideas to area legislators with hopes of making headway on this issue. The meeting will be 10 a.m. at Emerald Isle town hall.
