Two Smithfield Men Killed By Freight Train

Authorities in Smithfield say two roommates were killed Saturday night after they were struck by a freight train.

Smithfield police say Carlos M. Dubose and Larry Allen were struck after
failing to heed warning horns from the oncoming C-S-X train.

When police arrived at the track in Smithfield they found the men lying beside the tracks within feet of each other. The two were dead.

A C-S-X spokesman says it was a 100-car coal train that hit the men around 11:35.

The incident caused delays on the line, which carries freight trains as well as Amtrak passenger trains.

Investigators are trying to determine why the men didn't move out of the train's path.
