The pastor who was killed in a motorcycle accident Friday will be laid to rest on Monday at the Winterville Cemetery.

Michael Zimmerman was killed instantly when his bike crossed the center line on Highway 903.

His bike slammed into a Lowes delivery truck.

Zimmerman was pronounced dead at the scene, the truck driver walked away with minor injuries.

Zimmerman was the pastor at New Hope Church in Belvoir.

Services were canceled Sunday morning as his congregation attends his memorial at Farmer Funnel Home in Ayden Sunday evening.

Zimmerman was 49 years-old.

Previous story below:

State troopers say a local minister died after hitting a delivery truck head on in Pitt County Friday morning.

It happened shortly after 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 903 and Rountree Road, west of Ayden.

The victim has been identified as 49-year-old Michael Zimmerman of Ayden. Troopers say he is a minister in Pitt County.

Troopers tell WITN News that the motorcycle crossed the center line and hit a Lowes delivery truck head on.

Highway 903 was shut down because of the crash, but reopened just before noon to traffic again.

Troopers say it does not appear that alcohol or speed played a part in the fatal crash and right now they are not sure why Zimmerman veered into the other lane.

It's took me this long to even comment online! Steve and I had a special love and bond for Pastor Mike and his family! Giving God Glory, Bro. Mike had a true Pastors' heart for Gods people. There is not too many people that accepted people for NOT what they were, but what God could make them become. He always gave God the Glory for his messages and not himself but I know he would want everyone to pull together and he always preached LOVE ONE ANOTHER. Most of all his greatest prayer would be you "be ready". Its not going to be easy to venture ahead, but with Gods grace all things are possible! And to the driver of the truck---God bless you and your family and New Hope Church will have you in our prayers. Music Director of NHC

Concerned Citizen is right. The driver of the Lowes truck definitely needs to be remembered. Sir, if you read this, there's NOTHING you could have done differently to avoid this. Please allow your family and friends to hold you and hug you tight. This is a traumatic event to deal with, but please don't EVER assume and carry a burden of guilt. Our thoughts & prayers are with you.

Everybody also needs to remember the driver of the Lowe's truck. There was nothing he could do or could have done to prevent this, but that doesn't make it any easier to deal with after a tragedy like this.
