You won't find desks in Katie Carter's class at Fayetteville Seventy-First High School.
There is a floor-to-ceiling mirrors. The teacher wears a leotard and skirt and calls out commands in French. It's a ballet class, and the students say the muscle aches prove it's not an easy class.
Class participation is only 60 percent of the grade. The rest is tests and class work.
There are 15 girls and one boy in the class. Seventy-First is the only public high school in Cumberland County with a ballet program.
